Jackson Five: The Completed Animated Series BD/Combo [Blu-ray]

Psychedelic Seventies Silliness: This Cartoon Boasts Great Nostalgia And Music, But May Not Translate To Modern Kids
The nostalgia factor can be a show's best friend or its worst enemy. I can easily imagine that the viewers who got caught up in the animated adventures of the Jackson Five during the short lived show from 1971 "Jackson 5ive" will be thrilled to revisit their old friends. However, let's face it, the show aired for 23 episodes over forty years ago. That means that this DVD release will likely be viewed through very modern eyes both by those who have never heard of it and by those who might not even be familiar with the Jackson Five. As I sat down to this flight of fancy, I immediately recognized the trademark psychedelic look of the time, the cheesy dialogue, and the infectious pop soundtrack. In short, it was pretty much exactly what I expected. That doesn't necessarily mean that it was good or bad in my estimation. It simply means that what you get out of "Jackson 5ive" is directly proportional to your expectations going in. And in truth, I'm not sure modern kids will be able...

This is a "groovy" blast into the past with Tito, Marlon, Jermaine, Jackie and, of course, Michael Jackson!
There really is nothing like a blast from the past and Classic Media has done it in style. I'm from the generation who actually looked forward to watching the Jackson 5ive on Saturday mornings. Mind you, we only had thirteen channels then and if you wanted to watch another one, you had to get up to change it. There was no such thing as a remote and cell phones ... well, that was something you'd see on the futuristic Star Trek series. The Jackson 5ive series was short, but very sweet, running from September 11, 1971 to October 14, 1972. It later resurfaced briefly during the 1980s.

The remastered songs and the film have definitely improved the series, but there's still that old laugh track that gives in that nostalgic, retro feel. I played the series on an old surround sound DVD player and the sound was awesome. Not quite like the old stereo sound, but the series is now ready for yet another generation to enjoy. The packaging is quite appealing, especially the discs which...

Groovy! As great as I remember them from my childhood!
I received this set directly from the publisher, and hoped that it would be as great as it was in my memory of 40 years ago. The Jacksons burned up the music charts when I was a tween and of course Michael owned the charts in the 80s. Every kid I knew watched the Jackson 5 cartoon on TV, and we sang their songs on the school bus.

I'm happy to say that this 2-DVD set is every bit as good as I remember. The colors are bold and the sound crystal clear. It's actually better than when it appeared on TV because of the improved sound and picture capability of today's technology. Add in the bonus of no TV commercials and you've got a perfect trip down memory lane. All 46 of the remastered songs sound great!

Yes, the story lines are sappy, but they were a product of their times and I like them much better than the TV shows full of sexuality and bad language targeted towards our kids today.

This collection will probably appeal most to children of the 70s...
