A Struggle Against a Swindler
Frontier Justice, 1936 film
The story begins at a meadowland where cattle are being herded. Elsewhere sheep graze. A sign warns "nesters, squatters, and sheepmen" to stay away from the Five Springs Ranch. [Sheep crop the grass down to the roots leaving nothing to cattle.] Gilbert Ware is appointed guardian of the estate of Samuel Halston after he is committed to the asylum. Brent Halston, the son of Sam, returns to the county. One man keeps winning at a card game. Brent shows his skills at the tavern. Horses and cows won't drink from a place where sheep were. Could a rancher be eliminated by civil commitment? [No jury trial needed.] Ware wants to see Brent about the situation. Ware controls the bank too. Brent likes to play jokes.
They need a lawyer to fight for their property. Brent visits his father in the asylum. The Doctor calls Ware about this (they are in cahoots). There was a clue in Sam's conversation to the location of the $5,000 in bonds. Miss Morgan...
